Using Books in Your Research

Finding a book that meets your research needs is now easier than ever as several of the books in the Jones Library catalog and databases are available as both ebooks and print copies.

Library of Congress Art Subject Classes

The books in Jones Library's collection are organized by subject under the Library of Congress (LOC) classification system.

Below are examples of LOC art classifications that you can use to help guide you if you wish to browse the stacks.

N – Visual Arts

NA – Architecture

NB – Sculpture

NC – Drawing, Design, Illustration

ND – Painting

NE – Print media

NK – Decorative arts

NX – Arts in general

 

 

 

Finding Books at Jones Library

Books about art are primarily located in the 1st floor stacks and in the Reference Room of Jones Library.  You can tell if an item is located in the Reference Room because it will have "Ref" in front of the call number.
