Student Worker Guide

What would be considered an emergency?

An emergency is a matter that requires immediate attention.  Use your best judgment in determining whether a situation is an emergency, and when in doubt, get a supervisor.

The following list provides examples of emergencies:

  1. Fire

  2. Natural disaster (Example: hurricane, tornado, cyclone)

  3. Patron experiencing a medical emergency (Example: seizure, heart attack, etc.)

  4. Active shooter or other assailant in the building

What should I do in case of an emergency?

Please refer to this guide created by Greensboro College Campus Security to determine the appropriate measure to take for specific emergencies.

In the event of an emergency, prioritize your personal safety. If evacuation from the library is necessary, but not from the campus itself, all staff and students will gather in the middle of the green outside the library building. Once you have reached safety, follow the instructions provided in the subsequent section.

Once you are in a safe location, promptly inform your supervisor of the situation and your current whereabouts, whether in person or by calling and texting them.

If further assistance is needed, please contact the Department of Safety and Security at the following numbers:

Emergency: 336-312-9911 (Available 24 hours a day)

Non-emergency: 336-217-7245
